Mark's riding a blue raspberry Kushy Originals gummy as the crew wonders whether indica vs. sativa still means anything, and how much older we all sound since we started this thing back in 2019. Then Mike introduces "pocket hoods" (no, it's not a sex toy): a few families going in together on one lot of small homes with shared spaces. We get into why you'd never find one on Zillow, ADUs taking over every backyard, and a pack of coyotes squatting in an abandoned LA construction site. Then comes the fun part, designing our own Puff Provisions pocket hood: a storage unit, a Shire-style smoking room hidden under the lawn, a walk-in drink fridge, a grow room, chickens, zip lines and an adult tree house, plus whether the three of us could actually build a house with our own hands. Spoiler: we're broke before we pour a foundation.

[00:00:00]

Mark: Hey everyone, and welcome to another edition of the Puff [00:01:00] Provisions Podcast. I am one of three of your handsome cannabis dad hosts. Puff Provisions Marc to my right and to my other right, @PuffProvisions Mike and @PuffProvisions Darrell, who can’t see shit right now because we’re all getting older and somebody shoulda told you.

We’re on one.

Darrell: I hate it so much.

Mark: Gentlemen, welcome tonight. Thank you for having this conversation with me. I miss you guys. How are you? 6’7”, is that what the kids say? Okay.

Darrell: Oh

Mark: my man

Darrell: Just have eyes like a hawk

Mark: Like a, it’s like a fucking chicken dead hog

Mike: your eyeballs are getting old? Is it

Darrell: no i- I, I mean, I work on computers all day, so I probably just fatigue, right? But

Mark: Whatever happened to wearing fatigue glasses?

Darrell: right now. It’s fuzzy

Mike: Yeah

Mark: What about fatigue glasses that you turned me on to a long time ago? Computer glasses like,

what’s it called? Gunner glasses and all those types of brands

Darrell: have them. I just, I’m, [00:02:00] it’s not worth standing up and walk- walking over there right now. I’m

Mark: get it. I get it. I’m tired too. I’m tired too, and I just started minutes before this conversation started. You both got a sneak peek. I am ready to have this adult conversation utilizing a brand called Kushy Originals. 10 milligram blue raspberry hybrid, if you will. So if I start getting swirly in about a few short…

Actually, I don’t know. What’s the onset for you guys these days if you do an edible? How long is it gonna take you?

Darrell: You don’t wanna

Mike: 30 to 45.

Darrell: 3045. So, This

Mark: 3045

Mike: system is, this digestive system is old, so maybe Yeah.

Darrell: minutes.

Mark: Dang it.

Mike: taken a while

Mark: So it’s

Darrell: I get a nice walk in, maybe 15 minute, 20, 15, 20 minutes

Mark: So this thing’s probably not gonna start to kick until I actually decide to go to bed. Okay.

Darrell: should do some jumping jacks or something. Really

Mike: Ja

Mark: Will that help? Will [00:03:00] that accelerate?

Darrell: help give it a nudge.

Mark: So in a modern day sense, can I ask you guys something? After all these years of doing cannabis, whether it be indica, sativa, or hybrid Are there differences in the side effects or the euphoric effects between the three that you notice, or is it all the same these days to you?

Be honest

’ Cause you know how they say indica is in the couch, right? And all that jazz, those colloquial sayings. Is it true anymore in this sense? Because to me, this, all of this, all of these products on the shelf are just powerful. Too powerful

Darrell: I mean, I think so.

Mark: You feel there’s a nuance to each one? You feel like a different set of side effects?

Darrell: yeah, I do. I, ’ cause we are connoisseurs,

Mark: We, we better be. Darn right

Darrell: I could actually, I, I can, yeah, I can, know, feel the difference in terms [00:04:00] of how I feel wh- smoking different strains. like for example, something like a sativa, which has been my go-to lately because it does give me a little energy. like it, so some like, like Jack. That’s a good example. It’s probably like one of the first strains I started using. But whenever I smoke that, I feel like I could build a house. It’s so productive you know?

Mark: B, I’m quite the opposite. I’m just chill, if you will. I am zoned out. I am… I don’t wanna lift a house. I just wanna, I just wanna absorb the wavelengths, if you will

Darrell: I mean, during COVID I would, I would, I was, I would smoke before work and, would, it would help. help, I’ve, I, I’m thinking, yeah, my productivity was up, but I was high as hell, so I, I don’t know what my boss was seeing. He’s like, “Damn, Darrell didn’t do shit [00:05:00] today.” But in

Mark: Wow

Darrell: I’m like, “Oh, that, those reports are done.”

Mark: Well, all I g- all I gotta say is that, I think we’ve said this many times before, at least I know I have, is that if it’s not flower, I’m really not willing to entertain it. But obviously I don’t have any on me right now, so I have to pilot this conversation in a different light. So that’s why I’m here with this.

And yeah, I actually did clear the entire tray over a period of time, so my product feedback for this one was enjoyable. It’s a nice little, a little closer for the night. But

Darrell: Th- those are gummies, right?

Mark: Yeah, three gummies. Blue raspberry flavor to be exact. But, now that I’m think of it, my timing of this, I might regret it because it might kick in when I’m in deep sleep.

That’s happened before actually for me. Like, when I— There’s actually one instance using this product where I was in deep sleep, and I woke up, but if I was… It felt like I was in that movie, that DiCaprio movie where [00:06:00] he’s not actually waking up. He’s in another dream.

Darrell: Oh, Inception

Mark: Inception, that’s what it is. So if I end up in that realm tonight, well, at least you don’t wake up with a hangover in the morning, so that’s okay.

But still, that might trip me out. At any rate, Mike, how you feeling there tonight, young man?

Not young, that’s for sure. Definitely not feeling young. It’s amazing be- it’s amazing because when I play back older episodes

Mike: Yeah

Mark: and to, and as each year progresses from COVID, you know we’re getting older. You know we’re getting older. You could just t- you could just feel it in like the audio kind of mentality

Mike: I’m, I’m thinking back to, our early recordings and I’m like, I felt d- I f- we probably had way more energy, right?

Mark: We had way more

Darrell: I

Mike: Our voice sounds young

Mark: Well, I def-

Mike: It [00:07:00] does

Mark: definitely, definitely I know that the ones pre, pre-COVID or even at COVID, well, ‘cause there was nothing to do. So COVID’s, COVID eras are a little different.

Darrell: more well-rested

Mark: That’s true

Mike: When did, when was our first episode?

Mark: 2019. Yeah.

Mike: crap.

Darrell: Wow

Mark: 2019. 2019. And then yeah, there was nothing to do during COVID, so we were well-rested. You’re right. That’s true.

That’s true. But we’re getting older, all our loved ones around us are getting older, and tonight’s episode actually kind of has correlated to getting older, because as things get older, things get bigger in number, like house prices and mortgage prices and things of that nature. And tonight, folks listening at this table, or outside of this table, excuse me, our good friend @PuffProvincials and Mike introduced me to [00:08:00] a topic I didn’t know existed up until a couple weeks ago at most, called a pocket hood.

Now, when he thought… When you said the thing pocket hood, I thought honestly it was a sex toy. A pocket hood sounded like a sex toy to me.

Darrell: I’m, I’m with you there. I,

Mark: “Hey, Mark, you ever heard of… You, you heard about this thing called a pocket hood?” I was like, “That sounds like a vibrator, good sir.” So if you could, the reason why I bring this up before, I’d like you to unpack this better than me We’ve only gotten older.

Years are getting, getting up there to the years 2030s, and everything’s just getting effing more expensive, and we all know this. So we’re… This isn’t an episode on how to solve for that. It- but it is an episode to acknowledge that that exists. Gas prices are up, cost of living is up, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

Mortgage rates are up, so if you wanted to go grab a house,

Mike: Угу

Mark: wanna get a house. But then at the same time, Mike brought this up to the table beforehand, before we [00:09:00] started recording tonight, that even the list prices go up. So it’s like you can’t be in a win-win situation. And then you can, you, you and your algorithms found, found something called a pocket hood.

What on earth is a pocket hood in layman’s terms?

Mike: In layman’s terms. So basically, it would be a mini neighborhood, right? That’s what they call it, a little pocket hood. so how it would work is, say for instance, us three, we would buy property or a piece of land, right?

Mark: Aha.

Mike: And then we would build smaller homes or bigger homes, depending on how big, your land is.

But in the ones that I’ve seen, they’ve been a little bit smaller, three bedroom, two and a half bath type, four bedroom, two and a half bath type things, right? anyways, we would build these smaller homes one piece of land, and on what you wanna do, you can have shared, space, right?

So in the middle of our homes, they would have like a [00:10:00] little, grass area, picnic tables, maybe a jungle gym for our kids to use, and, maybe even have like a, another building with like a community kitchen, right? shared spaces, like telework spaces if you wanted to work outside of your home. but

Mark: that idea

Mike: it just, it’d just be like a little, little, little neighborhood with a select few people. the one that we watched, YouTube video that we watched, they had, 10, 10, like 10 units. of course, some of them were smaller, right? But like…

Mark: But what I didn’t catch… Imagining, go on

Mike: No, no, go, go. What was the question? Or what

Mark: units. So is it… So then that’s upwards of what I didn’t see. There was a gap when I was watching, ‘cause I had to dip out for a little bit. But does that mean 10 families could be there potentially?

Mike: Potentially 10

Mark: you’re saying-

Mike: but like say for instance, [00:11:00] you have, maybe our three homes and then you would have a apartment condo

Mark: Oh, okay. Okay. Okay. Okay

Mike: So you could have smaller ones, right? Like, yeah, so where you have maybe just a family with one kid or you have someone there that, has no kids or living the single life or, DINKs or whatever. But

Mark: it

Mike: yeah. And, in, in that example, let’s say for instance, we would all go in, right, and buy this property, but we wanted to move out. could either buy you out you can still be an investor and, and still keep your money because it is real estate, right? So

Mark: is. It is, and it’s a piece of property that you could, you could attach your name to.

Mike: Correct. Correct.

Mark: So my quest-

Mike: yeah. Yeah, yeah. Go ahead.

Mark: Very,

Mike: go.

Mark: very straightforward. It makes sense. It’s… Yeah. But here’s what doesn’t make sense from it. All of that actually makes sense, and I actually embrace that idea. I find it rather [00:12:00] interesting.

Mike: Ja.

Mark: But it seems like you have to know somebody to know somebody to know where to get to even purchase these things, because this isn’t a normal real estate listing. You don’t see on the glass doors of a, of a real- realtor’s office or on Redfin or Zillow, not normally. So it seems like it’s something that’s, that’s hidden or covert.

You know what I mean? And that’s the part that’s got me kind of like, w- how, how do you access this outside of just seeing it in your algorithms and things of that nature? Like, that’s not what a normal realtor would pitch to, to any of us. They’d be like, “Here’s a single family home, three two, three three, three and a half bath,” or something like that, “in this location.

Here’s the price. Here’s a 7% mortgage rate,” and all that jazz, “and here’s how much you have to pay per month.” And like, I don’t see these other alternative paths except with what you showed me that [00:13:00] day on YouTube a few weeks back. So what I’m curious on

Not if you know anyone that does it. Actually, yeah. Do you? Do you know anyone that does it, that lives in a pocket head? Okay, so

Mike: not

Mark: that’s the first data point. Right now we have zero. Do you know anyone that deals in this stuff?

Mike: Nem tudom.

Mark: Daryl, do you?

Darrell: I have a, I have a family in the Philippines. There’s like families in the house. Is that the same

Mike: Oh yeah, there you go. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The,

Mark: Marginally. how about, how about here in, America?

Darrell: I think so. Also, yeah, I found Filipino family, multiple families in the same house.

Mark: Now, but it’s one house. I- you’re saying multiple families in one house, not multiple families in multiple houses in, in a section, in a section of real estate

Mike: closer to that though. Uh, more and more people are building, ADUs on their property.

Mark: That’s true, and you-

Darrell: crazy

Mike: are building [00:14:00] ADUs so that, moving in in-laws or if your

Mark: I’ve seen…

Mike: member wanted to live there, yeah

Mark: Yeah, I’ve seen the ADUs though already in like, the Claremont area, and they went ridiculous with it. Like everyone put an ADU. So there’s like that humble level of sorta coastal living, but still being like in the valley. Like it’s all, all of the, the views are inundated with ADUs now, so they can’t even see like the sh- the coastline kind of mentality.

So it’s like they’re building out and up

Mike: É da, da

Darrell: uh, it makes it look ugly, like,

Mark: Yeah, like it

Darrell: little

Mark: boxes. It’s just boxes on top of boxes kind of mentality

Darrell: mean, it’s— although it’s, like, an excellent source of, like, income,

Mark: It is. I agree

Darrell: right? And you don’t ha— you just have to build it and just let, set it and forget it kind of thing. But it’s, it’s, like, a nuisance now. I see it everywhere,

Mark: Yeah.

Darrell: right?

Mark: It’s like, it’s like [00:15:00] you either gotta design them a lot better than what they’re currently designed at.

Darrell: I

Mark: Uh,

Darrell: nice ones. It’s

Mark: there are,

Darrell: it’s,

Mark: but

Darrell: out of c- out of control

Mark: Yeah. I think maybe that’s it. Not, design isn’t a problem, it’s the fact that it got out of control in s- in a few different areas. Yeah, you’re right

Darrell: sure the reason we don’t see pocket hoods here is one, there’s probably no space ‘cause all the land’s been taken up,

Mark: That’s true

Darrell: You would have to like buy a plot of land and, and like, tear down and rebuild. But I mean,

Mike: We’d buy like three homes right next to each other and then… But it would have to be in like in a non-HOA

Darrell: I mean, how does that work for like property tax and also for

Mike: Ja. ja, ja

Darrell: z- for like zoning and all of that?

And then I just

Mark: True. It’s like where do you know what, what’s, where it starts, where it ends, and what are your boundaries for it and what you can or can’t do?

what, and then also like what, what are the [00:16:00] rules, right? I mean, what, what, what keeps me from just moving the fence over and taking my neighbor’s house? Oh, that’s your, your house is now part of my pocket hood. You owe this much in prop- in property tax and forth, Isn’t it crazy how we’ve just made these artificial lines and it’s just dirt? It’s like if I dra- if I, if I just put this imaginary line, this is where you’re legal or illegal, or you’re inbound or not kind of mentality. It’s just, it’s… That’s where we’ve gotten to these days. It’s like, “This is my line of dirt.”

Darrell: What if it gets really bad where they’re like squatters and they just squat on several houses and then turn those into like a pocket hood, and it becomes like a squatter community

Mark: Well, I saw something in LA

Darrell: They’ll be unstoppable.

Mark: This might be deviating from, from the co- topic on hand, but it kinda is next to it. I think in LA it’s either an abandoned apartment complex that never got fully developed, a, a construction area for, for luxury apartments or, or just, [00:17:00] condos, whatnot, that it- the project never fil- never finished.

So now it’s an incomplete structure, and coyotes are living in it now. We’re back to coyotes again. Yeah. Like a, a, a pack of coyotes are just living there and howling back and forth, and residents don’t know what to do about it, and that part of the ci-

Mike: complex?

Mark: Yeah, in that abandoned apartment complex construction area.

So the coyotes have decided in their pack to live on all of the floors, and all you hear at night is them howling and communicating kind of mentality.

Mike: Okay, they must stink in there

Mark: Oh, yeah. I’m like-

Darrell: I, can you imagine the smell

Mark: I, I imagine if it compounds long enough and it just, you start to really smell it outside of, that proximity. ‘Cause if you don’t do anything about it, that wildlife’s just gonna be

Darrell: Oh

Mark: incubating in there

Darrell: It’s

Mark: kind of mentality

Darrell: right? It’s just gonna, get, worse

Mark: So I wanna get to a fun question regarding this, because [00:18:00] it’s depressing to hear about prices you can’t control, so I’m not gonna go there, and I’m not gonna, I’m not gonna… I’ll bitch and complain on a different episode, not here tonight. Let’s have a little bit of fun. One question each as usual that I, I like to, to play with, with each of you since we have three different unique brains here in how we think.

You and I, all three of us, we’re gonna get a pocket hood, okay? Just right there. Just put, put it to your imagination. What is the one thing that each of you requires to be in that pocket hood as you design or develop it? So like you, you already told me there are communal telespaces or a communal kitchen thing that you were saying, or areas that,

Mike: yeah

Mark: that your kiddos could play in, so on and so forth.

That’s great, and I’m glad you’re thinking about your kids, and I would think about mine too, but this is time to get selfish. This is the selfish question. You’ve just been empowered. You’re about to get a deed for one of these things. You’re [00:19:00] gonna have your name on it with a few people that you want on there.

But now it’s time for construction. What does Puff Provisions Mike want? What does Puff Provisions Darrell want, and what do I want? So I’m gonna give you about 10 seconds to stew on that, and then I’m gonna go straight to Darrell. So go ahead, let that marinate. 10, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one.

At Puff Provisions, Darrell, you are about to get your pocket hood, if you will. What is non-negotiable that you must have on that table, otherwise you do not sign?

Darrell: I keep going

Mike: I got one

Darrell: I keep going back and forth between, like, a garage parking,

Mark: garage parking

Darrell: right? Uh,

Mark: you’re, you’re toggling between two things at least ‘cause you’re saying I’m going between here, between here

Darrell: right. That and, [00:20:00] if there’s a pool. I don’t know. Those are the two thoughts that popped in my head.

Mark: Why a garage?

Darrell: I, I mean, like, to me, like, the, a big advantage of a pocket hood is you can literally have, like, your own little neighborhood

Mark: Yeah,

Darrell: and

Mark: yeah

Darrell: off from the outside, right? I— why, why not just make it complete and your vehicles in there too? Like, why do I have to go outside of my, my facility to— out into the wild to go to my car?

Mike: Do you want a garage attached to your home?

Darrell: Oh,

Mike: Or are you thinking a parking garage

Darrell: There were something. Underground

Mike: Underneath

Mark: the way the…

Darrell: Right?

Mark: you showed on that episode, even in Oakland, even though it was like a corner area, if, if you do it right, we could do garage parking

Darrell: no

Mark: for some of the… Exactly. That’s what I mean. Like, it costs you one property, so you have to mount up a garage

Darrell: yeah, so I, I, I, I did a little, after we watched, [00:21:00] after I, I saw that YouTube episode, I did a little research, just some light,

Mike: Oh

Darrell: search, and a lot of the pocket home properties, freaking small, man. They’re

Mike: Yeah. Yep

Darrell: you know, they’re t-

Mark: yeah

Darrell: the…

I think it’s, I, I think the most I saw was a, a three-house hood. Each house was, like, anywhere between 1,000 to, like, uh, sorry, 1,000 to 1200 square feet, which

Mike: Ja

Mark: Yeah. 1,200 is decent, but

Darrell: it’s decent.

Mark: it’s small still. Yeah

Darrell: was,

Mike: Mhm.

Darrell: that was, like, the most expensive one. Most of the other, on average, like, two to three units, maybe four, but you’re going anywhere from, like, 5 to 800 square feet, right?

And I’m like, “5 to 800 square feet? That’s like… I mean, that’s not, that’s nothing.” That’s

Mark: 1,200 square feet worked back in, like, the ’50s and ’60s, but it s- it doesn’t work in [00:22:00] today’s era,

Darrell: You

Mike: TVs are b- huge

Darrell: I take that back. If it, instead of a garage or a pool, I want storage because I’m not gonna

Mark: Yeah

Darrell: fit anything in my little house

Mark: That’s true. That’s true. Okay, @PuffProvisions Daryl has eliminated the pool. Ki- I, I have a feeling the garage thing you might use, but then again, you said the storage thing, so let’s, let’s distill this down into one. Is it, do you want a storage facility or do you want a garage? You want a storage… Okay. So our little Puff Provisions pocket hood has a storage facility.

@PuffProvisions Mike, you got one, and you had a tiny little smirk on your face as, since you had the opportunity to think a little longer than Señor Daryl over here, but throw, throw us a bone here. What does @PuffProvisions Mike want for him?

Mike: Smoking. A smoking room

Mark: There you go. [00:23:00] There it is. Describe your smoking room for me, sir.

Mike: in your pocket hood?

Well, I’m already thinking there’s gonna be, you know, similar to that video we watched where there’s like a,

Mark: Áh

Mike: there’s a… What is it? a communal kitchen, right?

Mark: Yeah, I c- okay, I can imagine that. Something in the middle area.

Mike: that, we already have, right?

Mark: Yeah, that’s the middle ground area, yeah

Mike: yeah.

exactly. So right next to that, maybe it’s a standalone building. Doesn’t have to be too big, maybe enough for six seats, four to six seats. it would be a smoking room, you know, where, you would still, have your own stash at home, and then instead of just going outside or wherever, you get to go into the smoking room where there’s a TV, comfortable seats, Leather, leather chairs,

Mark: So what do you think of that, D?

Darrell: That’s pretty good.

Mark: That is pretty good.

Darrell: yeah

Mark: Oh, wow. That’s pretty good. Like, I would definitely— [00:24:00] And it’d definitely be, you know, even though it’s a pocket hood, it’s definitely, it has to cater to, you know, your recreationalists that are in that pocket hood. Yeah. So the d- the decorations, the ambiance, you know, dare I say man, not necessarily man cave-ish, but definitely something that m- suits the f- the flavor profile of your personality and tastes, if you will

Mike: probably. I mean, I, I do like the, you know, the old school cigar rooms where they’re like,

Mark: Oh yeah. They have dehu- they have dehumidifiers and all that jazz.

Mike: yeah, Yeah, all that stuff. Like

Mark: Big, leather La-Z-Boys and whatever they, the good ones. I like it

Darrell: I feel like the Y is gonna padlock that door.

Mark: Right now all I feel is that you chose

Darrell: no you can’t join Mark and Mike in the smoking room

Mark: Wow. Are you emulating a certain @puffrevisions wife here? Okay.

Darrell: I’m just creating scenarios.

Mark: Which, which, which are valid, by the way. Which are [00:25:00] very much valid. They are valid.

Mike: that

Mark: So

Mike: that point I’m not gonna be like, “Hey,” you know, you know,

Mark: So

Mike: after the novelty has worn off like, “Oh, hey guys, let’s meet up there.” Like no. In your own time, in your own time. If you ha- if you ha- if someone else happens to be in there, cool.

Mark: Cool. Yep.

Darrell: But

Mark: hear that

Darrell: washing the dishes and I look out the window and I see Mike going to the smoking room, yeah, I’m going to the smoking room to join Mike.

Mark: Foss it off, gloves off, sponge put away.

Darrell: good night, family. I’m going to the smoking room. saw Mike outside. I’m gonna go outsi- go and

Mike: You know it’s gonna be, you know it’s gonna be bad if that ever happens. You know how many times you’re gonna go

Mark: És ez most ketten?

Mike: 10 o’clock, 11 o’clock just to unwind, all of a sudden it’s 3:00 AM, you’re like… and you slept in the smoking room

Darrell: We’re safe. We’re— It, it’s part of the property, right? It’s like sleeping, like, outside, you know, on— in your own property

Mark: if that [00:26:00] La-Z-Boy’s super comfy, I do see a 3:00 AM wake up.

Mike: yes. Yes.

Mark: A, a little bit of sticker shock after the fact. Yeah. Yeah

Mike: Just slip into bed

Mark: Oh my God

Darrell: You know what you’re gonna hear? You hear banging on the door. ” Mike, Mike,

Mike: Iya.

Darrell: in the morning. Come home. Come inside.”

Mark: It’s like I wanna stay here. This is, this is me. This is where I wanna be

Darrell: Mark and I who went back, went back home, we were like, “Oh my God, trouble again. Mike got

Mike: I think

Darrell: in the smoking room again.”

Mark: Oh, man. Okay. So

Mike: I think

Mark: we’re gonna have the, a communal kitchen. Sure, you can have a garage, Dean. Not, not a parking garage, but a garage. Um, and a storage con- storage area, if you will, which…

Darrell: We need something to store all

Mark: You need a storage, okay. And then Mike, you

Mike: yeah,

Mark: you can have your little, smoking ro- smoking room off the way, off [00:27:00] the bend just a tiny bit past the,

Mike: yeah

Mark: the communal kitchen or whatever

Darrell: would be bad. It’d be awesome because it’s like a lot of the styles I see, for pocket hoods, very like rustic, right? Like at the

Mike: Okay

Darrell: there’s like a semi piece of the roo- of the kitchen that like is outside or

Mike: Oh,

Darrell: Right? Something like that, right? Something or like, um, like the s- the sink is outside.

It’s not inside. Like, uh, right? The, the

Mike: yeah,

Darrell: like that, right? Like the stove is

Mike: yeah.

Darrell: the counter, the counter space is like connected to the outside of the house or something. So it’s like very like, “Oh, eat, we eat dinner outside, and we have like, like, uh,

Mike: Yeah

I was a little worried about that part. I was a little worried about that part, yeah

Darrell: Right. But then like the smoking room, it’s gonna look like, I’m thinking it’s not like a physical, like room, like just another box out on the yard. I’m thinking like make it look like The Shire, like under the [00:28:00] grass kind of thing with a little

Mark: Oh. So a little hidden, hidden below the gling kind of thing

Darrell: will, and you build it like maybe like, ‘cause if we have three houses in there, it’ll

Mike: Yes.

Darrell: between one

Mike: Yes.

Mark: I like that idea

Mike: of the

Darrell: Right? Well, the kids are running, like they don’t know that

Mark: Kids are running on top of the knoll or the grass, yeah

Darrell: part of the yard. We’ll put a, we’ll put like a slide on there so they don’t know any different

Mark: So you leveled it up because I have a hybrid suggestion

Darrell: But then

Mike: Oh,

Mark: if, I may

Darrell: When they see it’s just a rock, but then, like, the rock moves and it’s like the entrance to the smoking room

Mark: So this one was kind of unfair ‘cause I said only one thing, but since I got the last answer, it compounded. my original answer honestly was more of like a speakeasy kind of mentality.

Mike: Similar

Mark: Similar, and so it started mirroring the moment you guys started to put color to your words

Mike: Yeah,

Mark: on, what you want.

Darrell: speakeasy

Mark: Yeah, that’s what I was thinking, specifically a smoking speakeasy.

But [00:29:00] Mike got us covered with his idea. You improved on that idea by turning it into a hidden knoll area in, in the grassy area. So I like that. I like that

Darrell: there’s an underground entrance that goes under our fence that ends up into, into this, the smoking speakeasy.

Mark: That’s what I’m saying. So we’ll, we’ll c- we’ll connect the dots on my idea and do it that way so external, external guests can have a way in, but only by that, by that way, and they’re limited to what they can do. But then my wishlist started to compound just a tiny bit. I wanna go back to the communal kitchen.

And

Mike: Mm.

Mark: do you remember when, when we were at a grocery store once and we had to step into the refrigerator to get the, the alcohol?

Mike: alcohol? Yeah, yeah,

Mark: I want something like that where you step into either a glorified pantry of storage or a glorified refrigerator aimed for one purpose, to chill drinks. [00:30:00] Yeah, it has a… ‘Cause I, I want…

I’d rather have, a pantry is one purpose in mind because it stores confections and foods and, and other dry goods, but I want it to be big, like, like as big as that thing that we walked into. Otherwise, I

Mike: Yeah

Mark: want a big fridge just like that, that I can walk into. That’s the kicker, is walk into. I want to walk into it.

I want to be immersed by it. I wanna, I wanna be enveloped by it. You know what I mean? So

Mike: cool

Mark: that, I just need to know what’s more important. Do we want the fridge version of the pantry, or do we just want the glorified pantry? Both of which you could, you walk into it and you’re immersed in it. It’s not just a closet

Darrell: Where’s it gonna go?

Mark: Oh, where? Because you already covered m- with my grassy knoll speakeasy smoke area.

Darrell: Oh

Mark: want something different ‘cause you already covered the smoke room, so, and

Mike: about like, are you talking about where the fridge is gonna go? That,

Mark: Yeah.

Darrell: This beer

Mark: Oh, so we wanna do, you [00:31:00] want it to be a fridge room, not… So you’re choosing it for it to be a walk-in fridge kind of mentality, not a pantry

Darrell: also, it’s gonna also be a communal pantry/fridge, right?

Mark: Of course. It’s, it’s the, it’s in the communal area. Yeah. But I want that-

Darrell: are you gonna keep that for yourself, Mark? Huh? Not share it

Mike: Ja.

Darrell: members of the tribe?

Mark: I’m gonna c- I’m gonna, I’m gonna connect it to my side of the house. I’m gonna you guys can just watch. No, but I want that, that… So we’re gonna land on the refrigerator version or the pantry? You need to lock it down. So just the glorified walk-in pantry

Mike: for it, if we’re paying for it, right?

Mark: Yes. Bring all of these contexts and

Mike: I imagine a refrigerator of that size would require a lot of money to build out the maintenance

Mark: true.

Mike: it.

Mark: The refrigerant. Yeah. The mo-

Mike: require a lot. right?

Mark: the amount of motors would be

Darrell: You forget we had the solar farm off to the side on

Mike: [00:32:00] Yeah, that’s true.

Darrell: So

Mike: That’s true.

Mark: It’s true.

Mike: true

Mark: Okay

Darrell: to the, the Tesla charging stations.

Mark: Or, and this, this one’s extra selfish, my last, my last reply on this question is I want… Maybe this would, I’d, I’d connect to my own home. I want a grow room. Like, I want, I want a grow room, like, to be out there

Darrell: the grow room inside the smoking room

Mark: Is that possible?

Mike: It’d just be big. It would be, we’d have, we’d have to make it bigger

Darrell: you, you wanted a room fridge and you’re asking if a sm- a grill room is possible?

Mark: The s-, it’s possible to put the smoking room inside of the grow room

Darrell: Or yeah, it’s gonna be

Mike: And it would be sectioned off, like kinda

Darrell: be small. It’d be like a, like a, what do you call it? A humidor, like a big one, but for

Mark: taking inspiration from the cigar people tonight. All right. All right. All right. I’m into it

Darrell: Og der

Mike: How many plants would you want in there? How many plants would you want in there?

Mark: Keep it legal. I [00:33:00] don’t wanna, I don’t wanna break any laws. I’ll follow. Six,

Mike: there’s,

Mark: six plants. Oh, so that’s 18 plants.

Darrell: Ah, yeah, keep, keep it small.

Mark: You could smell. Yeah, I want 18 plants

Darrell: the provisions compound’s just churning out 10 ounces every six months

Mark: For donation only.

Darrell: for

Mark: Okay

Mike: though. That would be cool. A

Mark: Yeah,

Darrell: run

Mark: want…

Darrell: and just

Mark: Hey, all I’m do- all I’m simply doing is growing a plant. I’m just tending my garden, if you will. No one can say more or less, can they?

Darrell: gonna need,

Mark: didn’t think so

Darrell: we’re gonna need robot sentries. I, I feel like we have a lot

Mike: Five centuries.

Darrell: want. Maybe we need to build a gun turret on top of the corner fence

Mark: Well, we’re definitely gonna need fencing, that’s for sure. You don’t want just any… I could do, you

Darrell: This is getting medieval. We’re gonna have a castle, aren’t we? We’re just gonna…

Mark: I think the best thing to have in terms of security

Let’s go [00:34:00] classic. We’ll just get a few dogs.

Mike: Dogs. I was

Mark: just dogs. You don’t want dogs?

Darrell: No. they’re gonna be shitting on the grass, and then we have an outdoor kitchen. Bad idea. They’re gonna get everywhere getting that shit.

Mark: But it’s not like we’re keeping any of the goods

Darrell: our

Mark: in there

Darrell: what if they like pissing and shitting by our smoking room? Now you got s- smelly shire

Mike: We could, we could, we could train him

Mark: train ‘em, we train ‘em to piss and poop on the playground

Darrell: but we’re g- well, we need money for that, so we’re gonna have to grow the 16 plants

Mark: of these ideas are gonna require money. So where do you wanna go with this? That is not the argument

Darrell: have, we should have a dispensary on the other side of the fence that connects to the property. That’s how we’re gonna our income

Mark: What’s it called when…

Mike: gonna have chickens, right?

Mark: Yeah, I would rather have chickens. I want chickens. We’re gonna have chickens there. We’re gonna… Eggs, and then when they’re close to death, we’re gonna eat them.

Mike: Yeah.

Mark: That’s it, uh, it’s the [00:35:00] gift that keeps on giving

Darrell: do we live by the, do we live by a river? I, I want a trench in, like, from the river to our property to cultivate our s- our, our fucking hood.

Mike: Where would we

Mark: there won’t be a trench, but there should be something

Darrell: Aqueduct. I will build aqueduct. I don’t know.

Mike: Cool, dog. I don’t—

Where,

Darrell: I,

Mike: where, where in San Diego?

Darrell: I’m, thinking of those games, those games. Like, that’s what, that’s what this is turning into.

Mike: yeah, yeah. Yeah,

Darrell: Now we need a school so that we can have workers

Mark: Oh, no, no worry. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, don’t… I want you to get crazy, not too crazy. Get crazy, not too crazy here. Dial it back. I want… Let’s go with the security stuff still. We’re gonna have a fence. You don’t want dogs. We’re gonna have chickens. That’s, that’s budget, that’s still budgetable [00:36:00] amongst, spreading the financial responsibility amongst all of your owners.

Darrell: Right.

Mark: and that’s realistic, so-

Darrell: it’s getting pretty pricey though because we haven’t even gotten to like the really like important shit. Already we’ve

Mark: and, I, Mike and I have the 1,200 square foot homes. You have the 800

Darrell: Yeah, I guess I have the small one because it, because you took, you took, uh, uh, you, you need the extra space for the, uh, smoking room. So, so you

Mark: Right

Darrell: took, from my end. No, but what I’m saying is we spent so much more money. We already spent money on storage, a smoking room. Uh, what was the other thing? Uh, outdoor fridge.

Mark: Our fridge

Darrell: Do we have enough left for what’s inside the houses?

Mike: yeah, we won’t. Not in this economy

Mark: Oh, no. It’s gonna be just like a ba- it’s gonna be a bachelor pad. It’s gonna

Darrell: st- stools and blankets maybe?

Mark: You’re gonna get a mattress, you’re gonna get a lawn chair, and your TV’s gonna be on the floor, and you’re gonna say it’s perfect.

Darrell: It’s[00:37:00]

Mark: That’s what it’s gonna… That’s what you’re gonna say.

Mike: A question.

Mark: Go for it

Mike: came to, this just, just came into my head. I saw one of my buddies, or he, lives in Texas, and he built, he built something out, right? He built something out.

Mark: Oh shit. Okay

Mike: think… Or actually another one built an ADU. He, he built an ADU, I think in his, like, parents’ home. He built it.

It took him two years.

Mark: Oh, wow

Mike: we have the capacity to build a home, us three?

Mark: on the side

Mike: it

Mark: while maintaining our daily lives

Darrell: Safely?

Mark: full-time jobs

Mike: Yes, just right now. Yeah, if, yes. Like right now, like we’ll put our heads together and we’ll be like, “You know what? build a home.” For whatever reason, whatever the reason is, right? But

Mark: Actually was thinking about this this morning by way of

Darrell: to be one rule.

Mike: Yes.

Darrell: rule.

Mike: What is that?

Darrell: story. Has to be a single story.

Mike: Sure, sure.

Mark: sure, sure. My, what I, what I was tripping on [00:38:00] was What’s your source of plumbing? Are you gonna connect to the city? Because the, the easiest way is a cesspool

Mike: Or here, here, how about this? How about this?

Mark: That’s a lot of shit

Mike: a yard. Daryl has a yard, right? Daryl comes up to us and, like, he says he wants to build an ADU, but, know, budget’s tight, so we’re gonna all pitch in to help him out.

Mark: Okay

Mike: of all, like, the, the, the, uh, the whatever. Like, you know, the… He needs to build it, but we need to build it, just us three. That is it

Darrell: We’re

Mark: Do I have

Darrell: Home Depot. We’re gonna get the metal sheds from Home

Mark: You’re gonna get the little… Yeah, the ones that they demo out on the parking lot

Mike: It’ll

Darrell: Oh,

Mike: it’ll be Two

Darrell: where the, where the lawnmower lives.

Mark: What, what, what are they called?

Mike: bath.

Mark: those are tough shed, the tough sheds. We’re gonna get the tough sheds.

Mike: Tough

Mark: what…

Darrell: pla- the hard plastic? You mean the

Mark: Oh, man

Darrell: And what, we’re just gonna run a hose underneath? [00:39:00] Just

Mark: a, does your, does your buddy in Texas have a background in carpentry already?

Mike: Well that, no. That guy’s an engineer, and then the other guy, he built his ADU himself. It took… Uh, he said, I mean this is just based off stories and stuff on IG.

Mark: Certainly, but still, we’ll

Mike: he, I’m sure he brought in some other people to like, like an electrician or something like that, right? an engineer to, to, to, to do all that stuff or whatever it may be. but could we do it? Like do it ourselves

Darrell: No

Mike: the resources that we have.

Mark: Is there a time,

Mike: right? You’ll learn. You’ll watch

Mark: is there a, time, is there a timetable or a timeframe you wanna meet? Like, I want this done in X amount of

Mike: So it looked like he built a two-story,

Mark: True story

Mike: I think, I think it was two story.

Mark: Okay,

Mike: think it

Mark: go. Go on

Mike: Well, we’ll do one story. We’ll do one story, two bed, one

Mark: Well, no, no, go back to your friend that did two-story. How long did it take him?

Mike: Two years

Mark: That’s the [00:40:00] two-year one, so a year per floor

Mike: asked people to help him out, but, you know, I’m talking about just us three

Mark: I don’t wanna wait two years for something

Mike: So one year, you think we can do it within one year?

Mark: That’s aggressive, no.

Mike: don’t think we can, not,

Mark: No.

Mike: lifestyle.

Mark: That’s

Mike: maybe. Full, full-time maybe,

Mark: maybe, but I still w-

Mike: we could

Mark: I’d wanna build Daryl’s house first

Mike: Yeah.

Mark: do that?

Mike: I’m, that, that’s my point. Like, so let’s say, you know, we buy a property

Darrell: I close the door, the whole wall

Mike: we’re, the ones, we’re the ones that do it, right? Save money that way. If something goes wrong,

Mark: ‘cause

Mike: to repair

Mark: it, I, I do his first and then, you know, it’s basically we learn along the way. That’s, that’s h- how, that’s how you progress. That’s continuing improvement, you know? That’s kaizen

Mike: yeah.

Mark: Like

Mike: yeah,

Mark: error out, we’ll make all the mistakes at his house and both yours and mine, Mike, they’re gonna…

We learn from the errors of our [00:41:00] ways.

Mike: I, yeah.

Mark: We know. What? We built it. You didn’t have to lift a finger.

Darrell: hou- my

Mark: We built it

Darrell: doors, is it, Mark? It’s not gonna have

Mike: No

Darrell: You’re gonna install the door sideways, so I have to open

Mike: Ja

Darrell: up like this to go inside, and it’s gonna be low too, so I have to go open it up

Mark: you and the kids, you and the kids have to log roll into the house every day

Mike: Be bad.

Mark: Oh my God, ever.

Mike: I think I think,

Mark: We could do it. I mean,

Mike: I think so

Darrell: He’s gonna install the windows so they all line up. They’re like window, window, window

Mark: You know, there is a missing element to this. I do speak to, you know, different generations and stuff, especially older than us, and, they said, they said that that used to be a craftsmanship, like building my own house with my own bare hands.

Darrell: Yeah, I

Mike: yeah, that was a thing

Mark: that was a, thing. Like, that, tho- those, that era of time, they didn’t have [00:42:00] developers or builders.

They had themselves, and they learned carpentry and stuff, and I’m like, “Oh, shit, that’s true. That’s like a lost art.” You know?

Mike: Yeah.

Mark: It’s

Mike: able to build a home, yeah

Mark: say, to say that, yeah, I could build a home from scratch, everything. You’re gonna get electricity, you’re gonna get plumbing, you’re gonna get carpet, drywall, you’re gonna get tiling, sinks, all of that stuff.

You, oh, you wanted a garage? You’re gonna get that, too. You want a nice little front yard? I know, I know, horticulture and agriculture, so I know how to make yards. I can make… I could engineer a pool. It’s like, shit, they could fucking do it all. They’re like, “I don’t need a licensed contractor. I am the licensed contractor.”

Mike: Yeah

Mark: You

Mike: So I think, I think, I think we could do it. I think we could do it

Darrell: will install Acrobat so you can view that PDF to, to view the instructions to build the house

Mark: Gentlemen, it is always a pleasure having this mental [00:43:00] exercise with t- with you. And just to let you know, 45 minutes into the pod, it’s kicking in right now. Like right fucking now. It’s… I need to put on a seatbelt ‘cause I’m feeling good. I’m feeling good

Darrell: would be fun? If we had, zip lines just interconnected

Mark: you want a one-story house, so we don’t have that much latitude on things right now developed

Darrell: put a log in the ground, like 20 feet

Mark: Oh, okay. You wanted to do it like that, because I wanted to do it like… See, in my view, we would have two, s- some of us would have one story, some of us ha- would have two story. And I, I’m indifferent on which one I get, by the way.

I like them both. But in my view, the, it had that, so there’s a little staggeredness to the altitude. And when you said zip line, I was thinking of Data from Goonies, that I could do that. I could propel from one home to the [00:44:00] next.

Darrell: That works

Mark: I wanna do that, that kind of zip line. And you could still do it from level two to level three

Darrell: again, me washing my, washing the dishes, look out the window, and I see Michael just fly across the, “Oh.”

Mark: guys, we did this all wrong

Mike: What did we do wrong?

Mark: We need a freaking tree house. Our tree house. That’s what I… You need an adult-friendly tree house. Okay, we’re really racking up this bill, Daryl, I know. But

Darrell: we just, we don’t even have houses. We just have amenities at this point, right? We have a, we have a fri- So this. it’s a square lot, wooden fence around it. First thing you see, boom, a fridge. Then you look to the left. What’s that hump in the ground? That’s the smoking room.

Mark: Okay

Darrell: look, you look to the right and, what was the other thing? y- you see, you see a log [00:45:00] or you see a long pole. Like, what the, where the hell is that? Where does that go? A zip line. And we’re broke.

Mark: Forget about our chickens.

Darrell: Our

Mark: Don’t ever forget about our chickens. How-

Darrell: But how are we gonna eat it because we don’t have a kitchen because we ran out of money. So, so now we’re overrun by, by chickens.

Mark: Well, maybe we should have cut costs by not having a storage area

Darrell: and at some point, the chickens become self-aware, and we

Mark: Ah shit

Darrell: we ha- we have to safety in the smoking room because we’re… It’s too s-

Mark: Oh my God. Oh my God. Okay, you know what? I’m gonna draw this up in my brain in my dream tonight, and I’m gonna report back with my findings on that. But until then, my friends, gentlemen, 60 plus episodes in from- Being slightly young to where we are today in a post-COVID world, and we’ve gotten older. But I think we’ve gotten stronger in some sense, but a little bit smarter

Darrell: we

Mike: Resilient. We’re

Mark: Yeah, we’re resilient.

We’re still [00:46:00] here. We’re still here. We’re not, we’re not trying to be something we’re not. Exactly, we’re chewing through it. We’re gonna chew through this and we’re gonna get through. We’re gonna win. If we ain’t winning already, we’re gonna win some more,

Darrell: Co-COVID

Mark: good stuff.

Darrell: us out

Mark: No, you ain’t ha- You, we ain’t going nowhere.

We’re staying, and we’re building. We ain’t going nowhere. We’re staying, we’re building, and it’s gonna be Well, it’s not gonna be up in smoke, it’s just gonna be up in gummies. At 100 milligrams, my friends, at 10 servings a piece, puff, puff, peace

Darrell: Peace

Mike: Bye. Bye

[00:47:00]
